She figured that her life would remain this way until she grew old. As soon as she sees the main character she knows that there is something different about him. In his present state he looks sickly (due to his body not being use to magic), that and his declaration of causing harm to anyone who tried to control him, made it so that nobody wanted to bid on him. At the last minute she decided to place a bid. After the auction she talks to him explaining her plight and that she would release him now even if he did not wish to help her. He decides to help her since going to the capital would most likely be the best place to find a way to reactivate the gate home.
